1. Be Clear On Your Working Hours

You might be in a position where you have rostered hours, which is perfect. But if you don’t, then choosing your work hours is imperative. You want to choose a time where you start and when you want to finish. You could bookend these times by having a shower before you start work, and one when you end the day.

2. Have A Dedicated Space When You Work From Home

You can’t work from the place you relax. When you work from home, it shouldn’t be in front of the TV or out on the back porch. It should be in an office or a place you don’t normally escape to. It should ideally have a door. This way, you can close it when you’re off the clock. Never to see it again until you’re logging in for the day.

3. Be Organised When You Work From Home

Have a clear plan for the day. What do you want to accomplish? What are your stretch goals? You need to be clear on this if you’re going to get anything done. Otherwise, you’ll end up procrastinating and doing chores around the house instead.

4. Choose How You Want To Be Contacted

If you’re not in the office, then the chances are that people will contact you. Make it clear to your team the best way to contact you. You might choose email because then you can decide when to respond. You might prefer phone calls, but you risk it ringing nonstop. Work out the best communication method that gives your team access to you but doesn’t stop you from working.

If you decide that working from home is what makes you the most productive, then make sure to set some boundaries. It can be easy to get distracted and difficult when you’re in your own head all day., every day. It’s also ok not to want to work from home, just be sure to have a conversation with your manager to work out these arrangements.
